Elizabeth Willmott leads Microsoft’s carbon reduction team, focused on strategy for the company’s internal carbon fee, carbon accounting, and advance commitments to carbon reduction solutions. She designed Microsoft’s carbon negative commitment and its carbon removal program, including criteria for high-quality carbon removal to drive positive real-world environmental outcomes. She loves contributing candidly to public knowledge about corporate sustainability lessons learned, including a Nature comment on corporate net zero commitments, a CBS Saturday Morning interview on the impact of wildfires on forest carbon projects, a TED Countdown talk on the effectiveness of carbon markets, and a briefing paper on the challenges of early-stage carbon removal.
